Latest news from our campaigns

Dear Campaigner,

Welcome to our August campaigner update. We’ve been working hard to keep momentum up on our campaigns, and we also have some positive news and exciting events to share with you.

Look what we achieved together!

The last year has been difficult for everybody, but especially for people living with dementia in care homes. Many went months, and some longer, without a meaningful visit from a loved one.

Almost 30,000 of you campaigned with us for care home residents and their loved ones to be reunited at the earliest opportunity.

For too long too many families struggled to see their loved ones, and for some families changes to government guidance came too late. We know that care home visits continue to be a fight in some parts of the country. Be rest-assured we are challenging national and local politicians and policymakers when this is brought to our attention by people affected by dementia.

It has been much harder than it should have been, and for some it still is, but your campaigning made significant change happen for many families.

Take a look at what you helped us achieve in the short film below. What a difference a year makes. We couldn’t do it without you!

More ways to get involved

Memory Walk is back!

Sign up to one of our Memory Walks this autumn and walk for a world without dementia. Memory Walk is a family-friendly sponsored walk and a fantastic way to make a real difference to people affected by dementia. It’s free to sign up and accessible to all.

Campaigning for Dementia Research

Over 850,000 people live with dementia in the UK and that number set to rise to 1 million by 2026. Research is vital, yet it is chronically underfunded. We are campaigning for dementia research to get the funding it needs.

Thank you for all the work you do as campaigners to achieve meaningful change for people affected by dementia.

Best wishes,

Phil and the Alzheimer's Society Campaigns team
