Update: Military coup in Myanmar/Burma

Thank you so much for your prayers following the military coup of 1 February.

The courageous demonstrations by tens of thousands of people across the country are truly inspiring. But the international community must do more to support their call for democracy.

At the weekend live ammunition was used against peaceful protesters. Take action and stand with them now.

The military has a long history of repressing freedom of religion or belief. They committed genocide against the Rohingyas, a predominantly Muslim ethnic group. And atrocities against the Karen, Kachin and Chin, which are predominantly Christian ethnic groups.

Write to the Foreign Secretary and call for targeted sanctions preventing British companies doing business with the military.

Your gift to help faith groups around the world. That’s loving your neighbour.

The COVID-19 pandemic has devastated our world, hitting the most vulnerable groups hardest. Sometimes, hearing all the awful stories can make us feel helpless.

But you’re not helpless. There is something you can do to make a difference.

Your gift will help faith communities like Peng’s, whose church in China has experienced years of intimidation and harassment.

He told us, ‘We feel really inspired because people are praying for us…’

With your generous gift today, you can play a part in working for justice and freedom for people like Peng - In China and across the world.

Tens of thousands of people in Burma are protesting and police have responded to anti-coup protests with increasing force, resulting in the death of at least two people, one a 14-year-old.

Watch Benedict Rogers, our Senior Analyst for East Asia, explain what’s going on.

In response to the crisis, our annual day of prayer goes online for the first time. We’ll be joined by Benedict Rogers, CSW’s Senior Analyst for East Asia, with other contributors to be announced.
