Dear ,

Have you ever wondered if donating to UBC would really make a difference in someone’s life? Well, I’m here to tell you that it does!

My name is Ayo Lado and I’m an Indigenous student who just started the UBC Nursing program in September. To say I’m excited would be an understatement.

But my dream wouldn’t be coming true if alumni like you hadn’t taken a few minutes out of their busy lives to help a fellow UBC student like me.

Two years ago, I won a UBC Centennial Indigenous Scholars Entrance Award after graduating from high school. This award directly supports Indigenous students entering UBC who have the academic and leadership qualifications to attend but don’t have the financial means.

In a few days, Canada will mark the first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation to recognize the legacy of residential schools. As well, UBC launched its Indigenous Strategic Plan in 2020. So, the foundations have been laid, but it is funding from people like you, , who believe that education should – and must – be accessible to every deserving student who will help build a more just future. Thanks to donors, I have crucial help with tuition and housing, plus access to resources, enrichment activities and a support network that helps me succeed.

Giving back is a win-win for everyone. When you help Indigenous students like me reach our potential, you’re helping us become tomorrow’s leaders. In fact, when I graduate, I plan to start my career as a Registered Nurse in a First Nations community so that I can do my part to give back, too.

, I hope you’ll take a few minutes now to support the Centennial Indigenous Scholars Entrance Award with a gift. Take it from me – you will be changing lives!

Sincerely,

Ayo Lado
UBC Nursing Student

P.S. , you can help remove financial barriers for an Indigenous student. Please give what you can today.
