🌧️🌱“Timely access to weather information is the key that unlocks empowerment for #women smallholder farmers, enabling them to make informed decisions, mitigate risks, and thrive in the face of climate uncertainty in their farming activities in areas of production and post-harvest,” says @Francis Essuman, GROW2 Country Project Manager This week, MEDA's GROW2 project held an interactive press conference where meteorologists and climate experts presented the anticipated weather outlook for the upcoming season in #Ghana to help inform climate adaptation in farming practices. This knowledge will support women smallholder farmers to optimize productivity despite varying weather conditions. 🌾📱In Kenya and Rwanda, farmers are learning to diagnose and address diseases that threaten their #cassava plants using only their mobile phones. Through the Cassava Seed System project VIRCA Plus, MEDA has partnered with PlantVillage to train farmers on the PlantVillage Nuru mobile app. The app allows farmers to diagnose crop diseases in the field without an internet connection. As mobile phone access has increased in East Africa over the last decade, digital and financial inclusion has improved in rural areas. Now, smartphones and agriculture apps are empowering farmers with vital information on good agriculture practices, disease diagnosis and spread, and market trends. With 70% of cassava seed entrepreneurs in the project using Nuru, we are witnessing real change. Join us in celebrating the role of mobile tech in revolutionizing agriculture production!
