New review is our chance to "change the rules"
Add your support!

The Department for Transport is updating the Highway Code. This is our chance to give pedestrians the protection they deserve and to put people walking first.

We want the revised rules to make sure that all road users are required to prioritise pedestrians.

And we are pleased to see that the proposed changes to the Highway Code include:

  • Putting people walking at the top of the road user hierarchy – so cyclists, motorcyclists and drivers must prioritise pedestrians when making decisions on the road.

  • Making it clear that people driving should now give greater priority to people crossing the road on crossings and at junctions

  • Giving greater emphasis to slower speeds – making it clear that people driving should not exceed 20mph.
