In England and Wales, the Animal Welfare (Sentencing) Bill was introduced in Parliament in June, but it ran out of time to make it into law before Parliament was suspended, so it needed to start again in this new session of Parliament. It was included in the legislative programme that accompanied the most recent Queen's Speech and has now been reintroduced in Parliament.
The Scottish Government have announced a new Bill that will amend the Animal Health and Welfare (Scotland) Act 2006 to increase the maximum sentences for animal cruelty from one to five-years.
By taking a couple of minutes to fill in your details below, you will be asking your MP or MSP to back this draft legislation and make five year sentences for animal cruelty law across the UK.
