Take action to ask Scottish Ministers to save Coul Links before it’s too late
We joined forces with ScotWays at a public inquiry in March 2019 to fight plans to transform the beautiful dunes at Coul Links in Sutherland into an 18-hole golf course.
In late November 2019, inquiry reporters handed their recommendations to the Scottish Government and Ministers. That means a decision could me made imminently, so it's vital the outdoors community makes its voice heard now.
The plans must be refused as the golf course:
- Threatens to permanently transform Coul Links’ wild and scenic dunes
- Could restrict informal public access and impact on people’s outdoor experience
- Is inappropriate for a special, internationally-protected place
- Includes seven holes that cross an important core path, which is part of the newly-developed John o’ Groats Trail long-distance route.
Scottish Natural Heritage objected, Highland Council’s own planning officers recommended refusal, and a coalition of seven conservation organisations has highlighted the serious threats to the area’s biodiversity and wildlife.
