During 2015, over 7000 monkeys were forced into wooden crates and exported to the USA, Canada and Europe for use in cruel experiments. The UK buys sugar from Mauritius too. In fact, 600,000 tonnes of sugar is produced in Mauritius every year. The sugar industry is worth approximately $218 million per year to the country. We want to see an end to the cruel monkey trade and that is why we are asking sugar companies to use the significant influence they have in the global sugar market, to raise concerns with the Mauritian government about the suffering that is inflicted on the country’s monkeys.
