Researchers at four leading UK universities forced monkeys to endure brutal experiments on their brains. Frightened and alone, these essentially wild animals were subjected to brain surgery to implant devices into their skulls that hold their heads rigidly in place. They were forced to sit completely immobilised and made to look at computer screens or push levers for hours a day. These highly intelligent and social animals should be living freely in the jungles of south-east Asia, not suffering in UK university laboratories. And these experiments are so unnecessary. Our expert scientists believe that animal researchers are grossly exaggerating the importance of these cruel experiments to breakthroughs in human medicine. Please send an email to the Universities of Oxford, Cambridge and Newcastle and University College London by filling in the form. It’s your chance to tell them that experiments on monkeys’ brains are cruel, unnecessary - and have no place in our universities. Sir David Attenborough and Dr Jane Goodall are also supporting our call for an end to these controversial experiments. Please join them to speak out together for the monkeys who have no voice. They simply won’t be able to ignore us.Send an email to stop brain experiments on monkeys Please fill in your details below to send the following email to the universities of Cambridge, Oxford and Newcastle and University College London, telling them to stop carrying out brutal brain experiments on monkeys.Feel free to add to the message to make it more personal. Subject Dear Professor Brink,Sir David Attenborough and Dr Jane Goodall have joined Cruelty Free International and a line-up of scientists, primatologists and animal welfare experts to raise concerns about the controversial use of monkeys in brain experiments. These experiments inflict severe suffering; the monkey are often subjected to invasive brain surgery, water deprivation and prolonged restraint. A recent scientific review found that claims made by researchers of the human relevance of the data obtained from these monkey experiments were overstated. The review also found that the availability and use of ethical studies involving humans were of more value to medical progress. Given the significant evidence of the suffering caused to the animals, the limited evidence for the utility of this research and the availability of human based approaches, I support Cruelty Free International in urging your university to end these cruel brain experiments on monkeys.MessageSignoff First Name: * Last Name: * Email Address: * If you would like to receive email updates on our campaigns, appeals and news, please tick here.
