What’s your vision for the future?

Gweithredwch yn y Gymraeg

We’re in the midst of huge political change. The UK Government has published a European Union (Withdrawal) Bill (also known as the 'Great Repeal Bill') that will end our membership of the EU at the same time as ensuring all the laws we live by today remain in force.

Last year over 100,000 of you helped save the Nature Directives - the European laws which protect some of our most vulnerable wildlife and places. Now, that same legislation (and other environment laws) are threatened by this bill. We have to make sure that our environment laws are not weakened, or left vulnerable to future change away from the watchful gaze of the public and Parliament.

This is the ideal opportunity to make sure that everything we've fought so hard to achieve remains in place. Imagine if our wetlands were restored so they were not only brimming with wildlife, but also protected our towns and cities from flooding; or if farmers were paid to produce food whilst also providing homes to thriving populations of birds, insects or mammals.

Imagine if children had safe, green spaces to play, clean air to breathe, and a healthier more secure future to look forward to. Imagine what we could achieve if nature were at the heart of Government, communities and businesses!

This is an important time for your voice to be heard. Please contact your MP and remind them of their crucial role in defending our environmental laws, and ensuring they are not left vulnerable to future change.

What’s your vision for the future? Imagine if our wetlands were restored so they not only were brimming with wildlife, but they protected our towns and cities from flooding; or if farmers were paid a decent income to produce food whilst also providing a home to thriving populations of birds, insects or mammals.

Imagine if building developments gave children safe, green spaces to play, children that could breathe clean air in the cities and look forward to a more secure future as our carbon emissions drop to almost nothing.  If we were really to put nature at the heart of Government, community and business, imagine what we could achieve!

We’re in the midst of huge political change. If the UK Government steps up and create a strong Great Repeal Bill, it has the power to make sure that the protections we already have will stay in place. What’s more, the UK Government has a unique opportunity to build on current protections and reverse the environmental harm and wildlife losses we have seen in recent decades.

Article 50 has been triggered, the clock is ticking. It’s important that your voice is heard as the negotiations to leave the EU get underway. Write to your MP reminding them of their crucial role in calling for environmental protection laws that are even stronger than they are now and ensure that they keep the Prime Minister on target to deliver her promise to future generations.

The Prime Minister and her government made a commitment “to ensure that we become the first generation to leave the environment in a better state than we found it.". Let’s act now and hold them to that promise.
