Quebec: No more pets left behind!
Each year, around moving day on July 1st, thousands of cats and dogs are abandoned in shelters and pounds across Quebec. Tragically, many will have to be euthanized.
Most of these animals are unwillingly surrendered to shelters because of an unfair clause found in residential leases which forbids tenants from having pets in their new rental properties. Giving pet owners equal access to affordable rental housing by abolishing this clause would keep families together and save countless lives.
Ontario has already taken action to abolish their No Pets clause, but Quebec still allows landlords to prohibit pets in apartments without a legitimate reason. Discriminating against responsible pet owners and breaking up families has to stop now! Write to the Minister of Municipal Affairs, Regions and Land Occupancy today and ask him to annul the No Pets clause in residential leases!
