Ask the government to stop funding fossil fuels overseas

We are living in a climate emergency. Climate change is already pushing poor and marginalised communities further into poverty. We need to act now to renew God’s precious gift of creation and ensure that everyone can flourish.

We must ensure that world leaders take urgent action to limit the rise of global temperatures. That is why we are calling on our government to put an end to UK support for fossil fuels overseas and to shift support to renewable energy instead.

Please join us to demand that the Prime Minister shows true global leadership by ending all UK support for fossil fuels overseas.

Petition to the Prime Minister

Dear Prime Minister,

Pope Francis calls us to listen to the cry of the Earth and the cry of the poor. But we are ignoring both.

People’s homes, health and livelihoods are being destroyed by the climate crisis. It is a dreadful injustice that the poorest communities who have contributed the least to climate change are the ones paying the highest price.

As the eyes of the world are on the UK as hosts of the next UN global climate talks, will you show true global leadership by ending all UK financial support – including aid and export finance – for fossil fuels overseas? If the UK is to play its part in preventing a climate catastrophe then we must urgently end our support for coal, gas and oil overseas. Instead, we want you to shift UK support towards local, renewable energy that has the needs of the poorest at its heart.
