Education IS a route out of poverty

There can be no greater priority than giving a fair chance of a fulfilled life to our poorest children. We believe that it is a disgrace that at every stage of schooling the poorest children do worse and make less progress than their better-off classmates.

Children in poverty have to overcome a number of additional barriers to educational success - they often arrive at school less ready to learn, have fewer books and educational resources in the home, less confidence in their own abilities and home environments less favourable for study.

Investing extra funds in poorer children through one to one tuition and extra classes can help transform their performance at school.

Please sign our petition calling on the 4 education ministers of the UK to target substantial extra funds at the poorest pupils.
