Global suffering

It is hard to imagine travelling for hours, days or weeks in extreme temperatures and cramped, filthy conditions. But millions of animals - from pigs to horses - do so every year, just for a distant slaughter.

This cruelty is unnecessary.

Animals can be humanely slaughtered, close to home. Exports of fresh chilled and frozen meat are already far greater than the live trade, and growing.

International failings

Some nations already have legislation protecting animals from the worst of these abuses during transportation, but it is poorly enforced and ineffective. Other nations currently offer no protection whatsoever.

Governments must take responsibility for the welfare of animals transported to and from their countries.

Time to take action

We believe the long distance transportation of live animals should be stopped, replaced with a meat only trade from animals humanely slaughtered close to the point of rearing.
