Animals in Canada need your help. Send a letter to your MP now!

The House of Commons Justice Committee was provided with the opportunity to update Canada’s 116-year-old animal cruelty law and protect all animals from horrific acts of cruelty and they chose not to. All but one committee member voted in favour of passing Bill S-203 which makes it virtually impossible to convict people who abuse animals in the majority of cases.

While Bill S-203 increases penalties for some animal cruelty crimes, it retains the same loopholes and inadequacies that allow for the majority of animal abusers to slip through the cracks, unpunished. The Canadian Federation of Humane Societies has calculated that less than 1% of animal abuse complaints lead to a conviction.

Please send a letter to your political representative in Ottawa today. Ask your MP to oppose Bill S-203 and represent the view of the vast majority of Canadians that demand stronger, effective and modern legislation. We have waited more than 100 years for stronger animal cruelty legislation and this bill is not worth the wait!
