Suspected war criminals in the UK

A message from REDRESS and Aegis

There are substantial numbers of suspected war criminals and genocidaires in the United Kingdom. Sometimes it is not possible to extradite or deport them, or transfer them to the International Criminal Court. Worse, gaps in the law prevent them from being prosecuted in the UK. In April 2009, fifteen years after the 1994 Rwandan genocide, the High Court prevented the extradition of four people suspected of genocide. They have now been freed and remain in the UK.

There are efforts in Parliament to change the law. You can help by writing to your MP and asking them to write the Secretary of State for Justice and to sign EDM 1477 – a parliamentary motion urging a change in the law.
