Take Action

We would like you to write to your MP about inequality

For almost two decades, Britain has been one of the most unequal of the world's richest countries. New research shows how harmful this is to the social fabric of our society. Almost all social and environmental problems – ill-health, lack of community life, violence, drugs, obesity, mental illness, long working hours, big prison populations – are more likely to occur in less equal societies.

This research provides us with an incredibly important and timely opportunity. By emulating more equal countries such as the Nordic countries or Japan, we can improve quality of life for everyone. There has never been a more important time for politicians to take action. Our research findings show that the damaging effects are reduced by greater equality but not by economic growth.

Please write to your MP and ask her or him to raise the issue with Theresa May, Minister for Women and Equalities.

Or, if you would prefer to write about one particular issue that is affected by inequality, such as education or health, please ask your MP to raise this with the most appropriate Minister. You will find a list of the relevant Ministers, along with suggestions for what you could say in your letter, on the next page.

To write your letter, please first fill in the form below. All fields marked with a * are mandatory.
