Kids of any age will love writing a story and making it into a book – younger kids can copy the story from a favourite book, while older kids will enjoy making one up themselves. Each page of the story can then be illustrated with pictures and stapled together to make a book, with a cover made out of paper or cardboard. Children will enjoy reading their book with you at the end. Posted: 09 September 2009

To build a fort inside the house (perfect for a rainy day!), simply turn some chairs upside down and drape a blanket over the top. Empty cardboard boxes can be boats to get you across the imaginary moat, or you can lower an imaginary drawbridge to let your friends in and keep your enemies out.
To build a fort outside, find a tree or bush that has space underneath for you and your friends where you can’t be seen too well from outside. You can add to the fort by using cardboard boxes or bits of wood as the floor etc, and you can tie some material to one of the branches as your ‘flag’. To protect your fort, you should have only one way in or out, and arrange a password with your friends. Posted: 09 September 2009
