Despite the huge ecological and economic benefits our parks provide, they have been dangerously underfunded. The BC Parks budget remained the same for nearly two decades, despite the park system doubling in size during the same period. The lands and wildlife these parks are meant to protect are slowly degrading, and our Park Rangers are overworked and under-resourced.
Will you stand up for BC Parks and join us in calling for a robust system to safeguard these special places for generations to come?
1. Increase base funding for BC Parks to $60 million per year;
I am calling on my government to:
2. Continue annual increases to eventually match levels of leading Canadian parks agencies, like Parks Canada and Alberta Parks;
3. Increase the number of Park Rangers to match pre-2000 staffing levels, at a minimum.
