“We are already deeply concerned about the impact of industrial activity on our traditional lands within the Peace-Athabasca Delta in Wood Buffalo National Park. Those threats are growing with the proposed Site C Dam and oil sands expansion. We are using every possible means before it is too late to save the land that has supported our people for millennia,” says Mikisew Chief Steve Courtoreille

Wood Buffalo National Park, Canada’s largest National Park celebrated around the world for its Outstanding Universal Values, is under threat! Hydroelectric activity on the Peace River in British Columbia and oil sands developments along the Athabasca River in Alberta are leading to the degradation of the Peace-Athabasca Delta, one of the world’s largest fresh water inland deltas!

The Mikisew Cree First Nation have taken action to protect Wood Buffalo National Park by asking UNESCO to place it on the List of World Heritage Sites in Danger.

Write to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau asking him, and relevant ministers at the federal and provincial levels, to take steps to stop the development of hydroelectric projects and oil sands activities that may negatively affect the Park.
