As one of your constituents, I would like to meet you to discuss how you can help make the Work Capability Assessment (WCA) fairer for blind and partially sighted people.

The WCA does not recognise the full range of challenges and barriers that blind and partially sighted people face. For example, blind and partially sighted may be exposed to safety hazards in the course of their employment but the WCA only awards points for failing to understand the nature of the risk and not for being unable to see the risk.

The WCA does not produce fair results and is leading to many blind and partially sighted people being denied financial support while they look for work or being incorrectly declared fit for work. With the recent Government announcement that Dr Paul Litchfield is heading up the new independent review of the WCA, this is a very important time to ensure that the WCA's failure to treat blind and partially sighted people fairly is addressed.
