Badger cull trials - we need to act together NOW
The badger cull is planned in spite of previous scientific research which has shown that culling
has only limited positive effects on the
disease and has the potential to increase incidents of bovine TB in the surrounding
areas. The method proposed has never been tested and there are serious welfare
concerns associated with free-shooting. Badger populations could be reduced by more than 70 per
cent, and as the cull cannot be selective, many of the badgers killed will be
healthy animals. The culls will involve issuing licences for the free shooting
of badgers and there are no details as to how such culls will be monitored,
which is a further cause for concern.
Even if the cull achieves
its most optimistic targets then the majority of the TB problem will remain and
it is farmers and landowners who will be footing the bill.
We have joined together with the RSPCA and other wildlife organisations to stop these pilots going ahead but we need your help.
Please sign the declaration below to state that you will not allow the cull on your land. We need to get over 30 per cent of the area in the cull zones signed up to the declaration so please ask your friends and neighbours to sign as well.
The boxes marked with ٭ are required fields.
Please only sign this declaration if you live in the pilot areas of west Gloucestershire and west Somerset.
